Funded Early Learning & Childcare (ELC)

At My Second Home we’re proud to offer the Scottish Government’s funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) for children aged 3–5 years, as well as eligible 2 year olds.

Families are entitled to up to 1,140 hours of funded childcare per year, which we spread evenly across the year.

This works out at 23 hours and 45 minutes per week, giving your child a consistent nursery experience all year round.

Flexible Year-Round Childcare to Suit Your Family’s Needs

We offer flexible options for families who need more than their funded hours. Parents can:

Pay a supplement to extend a morning or afternoon session or stay for a full day.

Combine funded and paid sessions easily, with one simple monthly payment.

Spread payments evenly across the year for convenience and consistency.

When funding starts:

Children aged 3–5 receive their funded hours from the Monday after their third birthday, and this funding is applied automatically – there’s nothing you need to do.

Eligible 2-year-olds can access funded hours from the term after their second birthday, but this funding requires an application. Families can apply online, and our nursery team is happy to guide you through the process.

Eligible 2-year-olds receive the same number of funded hours as 3–5 year olds – up to 1,140 hours per year.

If you’d like to apply for a funded place, or simply want to understand how funding works at our nurseries, please give us a call or complete our enquiry form, and a member of our friendly team will be in touch.

Other Ways to Help with Childcare Costs

There are several other ways families can get support with childcare costs, depending on your circumstances. At My Second Home, we’ll always help you explore what you’re entitled to, so you can make the most of every available saving.

Additional funding and support options

College or university students – If you’re studying full-time, you may be able to receive help with childcare costs through your college or university.

Universal Credit – Families receiving Universal Credit can claim back up to 85% of their childcare costs, making high-quality care much more affordable.

Tax-Free Childcare – Families in Scotland can also benefit from the UK Government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme, which lets you save 20% on your childcare fees. For every £8 you pay in, the government adds £2 – up to £2,000 per year, per child.
